Doctor Mounty flies home late to take G3 Tropical Turf at Gulfstream Park

Son of Street Sense earns his second Graded Stakes victory in impressive style

Doctor Mounty got his 2019 season off to a grand start with a come from behind victory in the G3 Tropical Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 12.

It was the second Graded Stakes win for the veteran son of Street Sense. He earned his first such victory last fall in the G3 Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup at Laurel Park.

Settled at the rear of the seven-horse field by jockey Javier Castellano, Doctor Mounty was content to let Multiple Stakes winner White Flag lead the field through the early stages of the eight-furlong contest. Still at the rear after a half-mile, Doctor Mounty began to close on the frontrunners as the field swept through the far turn.

In the stretch, favored Heart to Heart took the lead and appeared on his way to victory, but Doctor Mounty was gaining swiftly on the favorite while charging down the center of the course. At the wire it was all Doctor Mounty, who won going away by a length.

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Susan Keller, Vicki Oliver & G. Watts Humphrey III, Doctor Mounty is out of On A Roll, a full-sister to Multiple Stakes winners Ender’s Sister (Listed Florida Oaks, etc.) and Ender’s Shadow (Listed Tokyo City Handicap, etc.). Doctor Mounty is a half-brother to Multiple Stakes winner Dabster, who recently set a new track record when winning the Los Alamitos Special (10 furlongs in 2:00.45).

In addition to Doctor Mounty, Street Sense was represented in 2018 by Multiple G1 winner McKinzie and Graded Stakes winners The Lieutenant, Avery Island and Tiger Moth.

Street Sense will stand the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
