Doctor Mounty digs deep to take G3 Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup

Son of Street Sense repels late challenge of Projected to earn first Graded Stakes win

Outsider Doctor Mounty took command in deep stretch and held off the late challenge of heavily-favored Projected to win the G3 Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup by a head at Laurel Park Sept. 29.

It was the first Graded Stakes victory for the five-year-old horse by Street Sense, who was second in the Listed Henry S. Clark Stakes over the same turf course in April.

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Susan Keller, Vicki Oliver & G. Watts Humphrey III, Doctor Mounty is out of On A Roll, a full-sister to Multiple Stakes winners Ender’s Sister (Listed Florida Oaks, etc.) and Ender’s Shadow (Listed Tokyo City Handicap, etc.). Doctor Mounty himself is a half-brother to Multiple Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed Dabster (third, G2 San Diego Handicap).

Doctor Mounty becomes the 56th Stakes winner for his sire, Champion Street Sense, who has been on a hot streak of late. Last weekend, Street Sense’s talented three-year-old son, McKinzie, returned off a layoff to win the G1 Pennsylvania Derby. Earlier that same day, his son Aztec Sense captured the PA Derby Champion Stakes on the same card.
