A determined Be My Sunshine prevails in the Listed Tropical Park Oaks

Frosted filly closes out sophomore season by earning her first Stakes win

Be My Sunshine slipped through an opening along the inside rail then withstood a late charge from Breath Away to win the $125,000 Listed Tropical Park Oaks by a head at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, 23 December.

It was the second straight win for the flashy grey daughter of Frosted, and it marked her first Stakes victory. Be My Sunshine improved her record to 3-2-1 in eight career starts.

Patiently ridden by Edgard Zayas, Be My Sunshine raced in mid-pack early on, content to let Speed Trap and Alpha Bella set the pace. Zayas angled Be My Sunshine to the inside rail at the top of the lane and took the lead nearing the eighth pole. She then withstood a furious late rally from Breath Away to win by a determined head.

Be My Sunshine was bred in Kentucky by her owner, Kenneth L. Ramsey, and is out of Sisterhood, a Stakes-winning and multiple Graded Stakes-placed daughter of Kitten’s Joy. Sisterhood is a full sibling to both Cozy Kitten (Franklin-Simpson Mile, 2nd G3 Bourbon Stakes, etc.) and to Becky’s Kitten (2nd G3 Summer Stakes). In addition to Be My Sunshine, Sisterhood is also the dam of the Stakes winner/Graded Stakes-placed In The Mood (Eskendereya).

In addition to Be My Sunshine, Frosted is also the sire of 2023 Graded Stakes winners Frost Point (G3 Doubledogdare S.) and Ice Dancing (G3 Santa Ynez), in addition to Sister Lou Ann, winner of the $500,000 Listed One Dreamer Stakes. In Japan, Frosted is represented by the talented two-time Graded Stakes winner, Jasper Krone.

Frosted will stand the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $10,000, stands and nurses.
