Dea dominates as 19th winner for Midshipman

Two-year-old filly wins for fun at Santa Anita

Two-year-old Midshipman filly Dea took control December 26 in a Maiden Special Weight at Santa Anita, becoming the 19th winner for her freshman sire.

In the one-mile race Dea patiently settled mid-pack towards the inside. Into the stretch Dea came with a late run to charge and easily capture the win in the final furlong.

Out of Stakes winner and Graded-placed mare Di's Time, the filly is a half-sister to Graded-placed Stat and Lenaro, and Stakes-placed Charlotte's Di.

The sire of 19 two-year-old winners to date from his first crop, Midshipman is the sire of Stakes winner Naval Command, TDN Rising Star and Gulfstream Park West winner Lady Shipman, Keeneland winner Frammento, and Stakes-placed runner Purple Heaven, among others.

Midshipman will stand the 2015 breeding season at $7,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
