Big Changes determined winner of the Unbridled Stakes at Louisiana Downs

Well-traveled son of Midshipman earns his third straight Stakes victory

Big Changes once again proved too tough for his competition when he powered to victory in the Unbridled Stakes at Louisiana Downs Sept. 2.

The four-year-old gelding by Midshipman has now won three consecutive Stakes races, at three different racetracks, proving that he doesn’t need to “take his racetrack with him”. Big Changes’ two previous Stakes victories came at Mountaineer Park and Evangeline Downs.

Sent off as the heavy favorite in the field 10, Big Changes sat just off the pace in third through the early stages of the race. Unable to wait any longer, Big Changes bulled his way to the front on the far turn, taking command by the time the field entered the homestretch. He then held off the late charge of Mocito Rojo to post a neck victory.

Bred in Florida by Joanne Crowe and Joe Pickerrell, Big Changes is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare, Colorama. He hails from the immediate family of G2 winner Grecian Urn, and Stakes winners Grecian Dart and Dark Shell.

In addition to Big Changes, Midshipman is the sire of Sassy Sienna, winner of the G3 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Midshipman is also represented by 2018 Minnesota Oaks winner Firstmate and In The Navy, winner of the Louisiana Cup Turf Classic.
