Battle Girl dominates in the Panthers Stakes

Midshipman filly goes wire-to-wire in stakes debut

WinStar Farm’s Battle Girl easily won the one-mile Panthers Stakes at Prairie Meadows on June 9 for her third straight win and first stakes victory.

A three-year-old daughter of Midshipman, Battle Girl broke sharply, took command going into the first turn, and maintained a half-length lead down the backstretch.  She began to pull away around the far turn and opened up through the stretch to win impressively by five-and-a-half lengths.  Battle Girl is now three-for-three since stretching out to a mile.

Bred in Kentucky by Brent Harris & Beth Harris, Battle Girl is out of the stakes-placed Mt. Livermore mare Livermore Leslie, making her a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Sweet Reason (by Street Sense), as well as G3 winner Don’t Forget Gil.

Among Midshipman’s current top runners are nine-time stakes winner and G1-placed Lady Shipman, last weekend’s six-length Royal Palm Stakes winner Dearest, and recent TDN Rising Star and Royal Ascot-bound two-year-old filly Red Lodge

Midshipman is standing the 2016 season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $8,500, stands and nurses.
