Another Level goes gate-to-wire to break maiden at Retama Park

Juvenile filly becomes freshman sire Emcee’s first winner

Another Level took it to another level September 22 when she led from the start to take a seven-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight on the turf at Retama Park by two-and-a-half lengths.

The dark bay or brown filly provided freshman sire Emcee with his first winner from his first crop of runners.

Breaking alertly under jockey Ted Gondron, Another Level set the pace while saving ground along the rail. As the field entered the homestretch, Another Level turned back the bids of Western Maid and Bella Noche, eventually pulling away to win easily.

Bred in Ohio by Andy Stronach, Another Level is out of Saintcerely, a daughter of Saint Ballado. Saintcerely is out of the Stakes-winning mare Belle Nuit, and is a half-sister to Octave, winner of the G1 Mother Goose and G1 Coaching Club American Oaks.

Emcee is the highest rated runner by sire of sires, Unbridled’s Song. During his racing career, Emcee broke his maiden in his career debut by four-and-a-half lengths. He later set a new Stakes record in the seven-furlong G1 Forego. His first crop are two-year-olds of 2017.
