First foal arrives for multiple G1 winner Alpha
Alpha

The first reported foal by G1 Travers Stakes winner Alpha was born on January 28th at Sequel Stallions in New York. Bred by Eddie Woods' Other Things LLC, the colt is out of stakes winner Silence Dogood.

Silence Dogood, winner of the Belmont’s Babae Stakes, is a half-sister to Listed winner Silver Haze and to the dam of G3 winner and G1-placed Rodman. The colt’s second dam is the multiple G1 winner Taisez Vous and his extended family includes the likes of European champion Bint Pasha and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Beautician.

Sequel Stallions owner Becky Thomas said, “It’s just so exciting and meaningful to reach this moment with our promising young sire, Alpha. As they say, ‘hope springs eternal,’ and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing more of his foals arrive this year.”

Alpha, who raced in the royal blue silks of Godolphin, entered stud at Sequel Stallions in 2015 following a racing career that mirrored his champion father Bernardini with wins in the G1 Travers and G2 Jim Dandy. He also won the G1 Woodward and the G3 Withers with seconds in the G1 Wood Memorial and the G1 Champagne as a two-year-old. He retired with earnings of $1,815,667.

Alpha is out of the stakes-winning Nijinsky II mare Munnaya and hails from an impressive family that includes 19 G1 winners or champions under the first four dams, including Key to the Moon, Kamar, Flashing, Gorgeous, Seaside Attraction, Golden Attraction, and many others.

Alpha, whose 2016 fee is $8,500, stands alongside other Darley stallions Emcee and Desert Party at Sequel.
