Amidst Waves finds smooth sailing in Monmouth Park’s Colleen Stakes

Two-year-old Midshipman filly impresses in her Stakes debut

Amidst Waves made her Stakes debut a winning one with a sharp one-and-a-quarter length victory in the $106,000 Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, 29 July.

The two-year-old chestnut daughter of Midshipman, who improved her record to two wins in three starts, entered the race off an impressive maiden special weight victory at Belmont Park on 7 July. She has excelled on the turf, as both of her wins have been on the lawn.

Amidst Waves was quick out of the gate and showed early speed, contending for the lead with Velvet Vixen and She’s Fire while racing three-wide. Amidst Waves continued to battle with Velvet Vixen through the far turn before spurting away from that rival at the top of the stretch. She continued to draw off through the lane under mild urging to post the victory.

Amidst Waves was bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm and Ballyfair Bloodstock and is out of Troublesome, a winning daughter of Into Mischief. Purchased as a yearling for $100,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale, Amidst Waves hails from the female family of Stakes winners Time to Dream, Five Star Dream and Five Star Deputy.

Midshipman's 17% career Black Type horses from starters continues to be among the best in the business - no stallion under $55k can top it. His 25 Black Type horses in 2022 were more than any other stallion under $100k. They included G2 San Diego winner Royal Ship and G3 Pocahontas winner Fun and Feisty, plus two other juvenile Stakes winners.
