Allied Air Raid dominates in the Unbridled Stakes

Son of Midshipman gets first stakes victory in turf debut

Midshipman’s four-year-old son Allied Air Raid won easily in his turf debut to claim his first career stakes victory in the 8.5 furlong Unbridled Stakes at Louisiana Downs on September 10.

In the middle of the pack early under jockey Joe Bravo, Allied Air Raid began to make up ground on the leaders down the backstretch before sweeping to the lead while traveling four wide around the far turn.  He continued to accelerate through the stretch and drew away to win easily by four lengths for trainer Brad Cox and owner Ten Strike Racing.

Allied Air Raid was Graded Stakes-placed twice in 2015 when 2nd in the G3 Iowa Derby and 3rd in the G2 Super Derby, and was also 2nd in the G3 Salvatore Mile at Monmouth earlier this year.

Bred in Kentucky by C. Kidder and N. Cole, Allied Air Raid is out of the G3-placed Boundary mare Stake. Stake has a yearling full sister to Allied Air Raid that sold to Cromwell Bloodstock for $75,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton July sale.

Allied Air Raid becomes Midshipman’s 12th career black type winner and his 7th black type winner in 2016.  Midshipman's lifetime 18% black type horses from starters is best among all Kentucky stallions standing for $75,000 or less.  Among Midshipman’s other top runners are 11-time Stakes winner Lady Shipman, Azalea Stakes winner and G2 Prioress runner-up Dearest; Colleen Stakes winner Red Lodge; San Pedro Stakes winner Yiannis; Shipmate, winner of both the Iowa Stallion Futurity and Northern Lights Debutante; Riskaverse Stakes winner Stormy Regatta; and Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command.
