First foals for Champion Midshipman

On January 26, Midshipman’s first foal was born at Darley’s Stonerside division in Paris, Kentucky. Out of the G3-winning mare Freefourracing, the filly is a half-sister to Listed winner Speedway and stakes-placed Free Brave and Ready Racer. Said Stonerside Farm Manager Bobby Spalding, “Great foal. Great presence. Good legs and great muscle. A lot of characteristics of her father. Just what we hoped for.”

Another foal by Midshipman was born at Cloverleaf Farms II in Reddick, Florida, on January 29. Owned by Cloverleaf Farms II LLC, this colt is out of Lucky Flyer, a daughter of the stakes-winning mare Beautiful Crazy, from the immediate family of G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Lucky Lucky Lucky. Lucky Flyer also has a two-year-old colt by Medaglia d’Oro.

Matt Lyons, General Manager of Cloverleaf, said of the foal, “We like our Midshipman filly. She has beautiful angles and looks very racy. She has good bone and substance and is just a nice foal overall."

Midshipman was awarded Eclipse Award honors as Champion two-year-old following victories in the fastest-ever G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and G1 Del Mar Futurity. He currently stands are Darley America for a fee of $12,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
