What a pair for E Dubai!

Back-to-back wins at Aqueduct as What A Pear and Mr Fantasy maintain their unbeaten records in style

E Dubai rounded out 2008 in fine fashion and the new year has started equally promisingly as he was responsible for a new Stakes winner at Aqueduct on Sunday, as part of a double on the card for the Darley sire.

Three-year-old filly What A Pear has certainly made a faultless start to her racing career. She is now three wins for three runs, the latest of these being the Wistful Stakes over an extended mile. The New York-bred started her winning streak on 6 December at Aqueduct and struck again on 9 January. Stepping up in both class and distance, her most recent triumph was well within her capabilities as she forged clear of her rivals two furlongs out to win readily. Out of the Pine Bluff mare Perfect Pear, she was bred by Dr Russell S. Cohen.

What A Pear’s victory came within an hour of that of Mr Fantasy, also three and with two successful starts to his name which have yielded a cumulative winning margin of 19 lengths. Following up on his tearaway strike on 28 December, the colt again ran his rivals ragged to come home eight-and-a-half lengths to the good. Bred by Corra Cavalo Thoroughbreds, Mr Fantasy's dam is Twice Forbidden (Spectacular Bid).

E Dubai, who boasts an APEX A runner index of 2.53, higher than that of Tiznow (2.48), El Prado (2.42) and Pulpit (2.39), stands at Darley America for a fee of $15,000 (Stands and Nurses).
