Cash Burn proves wise investment in Maid of the Mist Stakes

Juvenile filly by Nyquist remains perfect in two starts

Klaravich Stables’ Cash Burn battled with B Yutiful Carly the length of the stretch and finally got her neck in front in the shadow of the wire to win the $200,000 Maid of the Mist Stakes at Belmont Park Oct. 24.

The two-year-old daughter of Nyquist, who was making her Stakes debut in the eight-furlong contest, remains perfect in two starts. She broke her maiden going six-and-a-half furlongs at Saratoga by 13 ½ lengths.

Cash Burn broke well under Flavien Prat and raced in second, content to just sit off the moderate pace set by Sun Kissed Bliss, winner of the Lady Finger Stakes in her previous start. As that one began to tire on the far turn, Cash Burn moved past to take the lead at the top of the lane. She was then joined by B Yutiful Carly and the duo quickly pulled away from the rest of the field, locked in their own private battle through the stretch. Cash Burn finally wrested control nearing the wire to win by a neck.

Bred in New York by Ned Williams, Mike Matese, and Jack Murray, Cash Burn is out of the Stakes-placed Violence mare, Three Hawk, who is a daughter of Graded Stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Maddalena (Good and Tough). In addition to Three Hawk, Maddalena is the dam of Graded Stakes winner Bern Identity (Bernstein) and Stakes-placed Sagamore Mischief (Into Mischief) and Battle of Evermore (Scat Daddy).

Cash Burn is one of 13 Stakes winners this year for her sire, Nyquist, who is represented by 2026 Grade 1 winners Emphatic (Darley Alcibiades), Knightsbridge (Pacific Classic), and Nysos (Met Mile). Nyquist is also the sire of Immersive (G2 Fleur de Lis), Growth Equity (G3 Peter Pan), Iron Honor (G3 Gotham Stakes), and David of Athens (G3 Jebel Ali Mile).

Nyquist will stand the 2027 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a fee of $225,000, stands and nurses.
