No doubt about it: Emphatic earns top honors in G1 Darley Alcibiades

Two-year-old Nyquist filly remains perfect in three starts

Emphatic lived up to her name with yet another gate-to-wire victory, this time taking the $650,000 G1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes by one-and-a-quarter lengths at Keeneland Oct. 2.

The two-year-old daughter of Nyquist, who entered the race off a win in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park Aug. 29, remains perfect in three starts. With her win in the Alcibiades, Emphatic earned a fees-paid berth to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, to be held at the same racetrack Oct. 30.

At the start it was Emphatic that broke like a rocket and shot right to the lead under Tyler Gaffalione. She was tracked closely by the favorite, Summer Starlet, heading into the clubhouse turn. Emphatic continued to lead down the backstretch, with Summer Starlet never further than a length away. It was another five lengths back to the rest of the field, and it quickly became clear that it was a just a two-filly race.

Entering the homestretch Summer Starlet continued to challenge Emphatic but Gaffalione kept his filly focused and she never relinquished her lead, eventually opening up to win by almost two lengths.

Bred in Pennsylvania by Jon A. Marshall, Emphatic is out of the unraced Tiznow mare, Convinced, and is a full sister to Stakes-placed Wesawtaylorinparis. The immediate family also includes Eclipse Champion sprinter, Rubiano, leading sire Tapit, and multiple Graded Stakes winner Madefromlucky.

Emphatic is the third G1 winner this year for her sire Nyquist, joining Knightsbridge (G1 Pacific Classic) and Nysos (G1 Met Mile), and is one of 11 Stakes winners overall in 2026. Nyquist is also the sire of Immersive (G2 Fleur de Lis), Growth Equity (G3 Peter Pan), Iron Honor (G3 Gotham Stakes), and David of Athens (G3 Jebel Ali Mile).
