The aptly named Emphatic lived up to her name when taking command at the top of the stretch and drawing off to a five-and-a-quarter length victory in the $100,000 Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park Aug. 29.
The juvenile filly by Nyquist, who won her debut by over six lengths at Colonial Downs, aced her first try going both two turns and a distance of ground with flying colors.
Quick from the gate despite a wide draw into the short run for the clubhouse turn, the Emphatic was stuck three wide but still hung around in the top flight, sitting third behind Space for Grace and Witchy Vibes while making steady forward progress past the half-mile pole.
Still three wide and now pressuring for the lead, Emphatic had no issue drawing past the leaders and hit the stretch with a clear lead, opening up at will for the win.
Bred in Pennsylvania by Jon A. Marshall, Emphatic is out of the unraced Tiznow mare, Convinced, and is a full sister to Stakes-placed Wesawtaylorinparis. The immediate family also includes Eclipse Champion sprinter, Rubiano, leading sire Tapit, and multiple Graded Stakes winner Madefromlucky.
Nyquist has 11 Stakes winners to his credit this year, including Graded Stakes winners Knightsbridge (G1 Pacific Classic), Nysos (G1 Met Mile), Immersive (G2 Fleur de Lis), Growth Equity (G3 Peter Pan), Iron Honor (G3 Gotham Stakes), and David of Athens (G3 Jebel Ali Mile).
