Runaway Again reeled in the front-running Paramount Prince nearing the wire to win the $150,000 G3 Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday, June 27.
Sent off as the third choice in the event for older runners, the Hard Spun gelding, winner of the Prince of Wales Stakes last year, was making his third start of the year. Runaway Again, who entered the race off a third-place finish in the G2 Eclipse Stakes, notched his first graded stakes victory in the nine-furlong main track contest.
Paramount Prince, the 2023 King's Plate winner, seized early command and reached the opening quarter in a tepid :24.96, followed by Saugeen, Runaway Again and Swift Delivery.
Paramount Prince still led the way after a half in :50.63 as he looked to sprint away from his rivals around the final turn. Runaway Again, who enjoyed an ideal inside stalking trip, found room with about 300 yards to go as jockey Ryan Munger directed his charge to the outside to take aim at the leader.
Still about 1 1/2 lengths behind at the stretch call, Runaway Again struck the front soon after and went on to eke out a neck win. A game Paramount Prince finished second, followed by Swift Delivery and Wyoming Bill.
Runaway Again was bred in Ontario by Adena Springs. He is out of the Storm Cat mare Golden Venus, she a half to Eclipse Champion two-year-old and G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Macho Uno and G1 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again.
Hard Spun's other Stakes winners this year include Graded Stakes winners Moon Spun, winner of the G2 Unbridled Sidney Stakes, Bold Journey winner of the G3 Tom Fool, in addition to Kupuna, winner of the Colonel E.R. Bradley Stakes. Hard Spun was represented by 21 Stakes horses in 2025 - more than any other stallion standing for less than $45,000.
