Brilliant Met Mile winner Frosted euthanized

Darley stallion Frosted has succumbed to an acute episode of laminitis and was humanely euthanized on April 15th at Jonabell Farm. The son of Tapit, and brilliant Met Mile record-setter, will be greatly missed. 

A Godolphin homebred, Frosted was a three-time winner at G1 level, including a tour-de-force in the G1 Metropolitan Handicap. In 2016, a race which New York track announcer Larry Collmus called a “dazzling performance”. His Beyer Speed Figure of 123 is still the highest-ever at a mile.

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the imposing grey won the G1 Wood Memorial S., and G2 Pennsylvania Derby during his 3-year-old season. He also ran second that year in the G1 Belmont S., G2 Jim Dandy S., and G2 Holy Bull S. Third in the G1 Travers S. and fourth in the G1 Kentucky Derby, Frosted really blossomed as a 4-year-old, adding a score in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 in the spring at Meydan, prior to returning stateside and demolishing rivals in a new Stakes record of 1:32.73 in the Met Mile by 14 1/4 lengths at Belmont. He then added the historic G1 Whitney S. at Saratoga in August. Frosted retired with a record of 19-6-6-2 and earnings of $3,972,800.

Frosted was an exceptional and exciting racehorse and accomplished sire. In addition, he was also a huge fan favorite for thousands of visitors over the years here at Jonabell.”

Frosted sired a total of 35 Group or Graded Stakes horses, 14 Graded Stakes winners, with seven on the board at the highest level.

Frosted will be buried at Jonabell Farm.
