Rose A smooth winner of the Albuquerque Distaff

Daughter of Hard Spun hugs the rail to secure her first Stakes victory

Rose A took advantage of a ground saving trip along the inside rail on her way to scoring a half-length victory in the Pitre GMC Albuquerque Distaff on Saturday, Sept. 6.

It was the first Stakes win for the three-year-old Hard Spun filly, who is a half-sister to G1 Saudi Cup winner, Senor Buscador.

An impressive 16-length maiden winner in March, Rose A was most recently third, beaten just a half-length, in an allowance contest at Lone Star Park in July. Rose A broke well and rated nicely in third for jockey Luis Valenzuela, saving ground along the rail as Tianma and Power Connection battled for the early lead.

Put under a drive midway through the far turn, Rose A slipped through an opening along the rail to take the lead into the stretch. Despite drifting a bit in the stretch, Rose A had enough left in the tank to prevail over the late-closing Corrina Corrina to get the win.

Rose A was bred in Kentucky by Joe R. Peacock Jr. and is out of the multiple Stakes winning mare, Rose’s Desert (by Desert God). Rose A is the fifth Stakes winner produced by Rose’s Desert, who is also the dam of Senor Buscador (Mineshaft), winner of the G1 Saudi Cup, third in the G1 Dubai World Cup and winner of over $12 million (US). She is also the dam of G3 winner Runaway Ghost and Stakes winners Sheriff Brown and Our Irish Rose.

Rose A continues the recent purple patch for her sire, Hard Spun, who was represented by four Stakes winners in the month of August. Those Stakes winners include Elysian Field (G3 Seaway Stakes), Gas Me Up (G2 King Edward Stakes), Highway Robber (Listed KY Downs Preview Turf Cup) and Pondering (KY Downs Preview Ladies Turf Sprint).
