Wild Planet overcomes difficulties to win Listed Poseidon Stakes

Three-year-old becomes Animal Kingdom’s second Australian Stakes winner

The lightly-raced Wild Planet became the second Australian-bred winner for his sire Animal Kingdom when he produced a courageous effort to capture the Listed Poseidon Stakes at Flemington on 6 October.

Having won his maiden at his previous outing, Wild Planet coped admirably with the step up in class and a luckless, wide run to narrowly defeat Ranier in a hard fought finish.

Wild Planet also becomes Animal Kingdom’s sixth Stakes winner.

A three-year-old gelding from the Redoute’s Choice mare Salutations, Wild Planet was bred by Arrowfield Pastoral and was a A$280,000 buy at the 2017 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales by his trainer John Hawkes.
