That Zen feeling

Unstoppable Street Cry filly Zenyatta cruises to her seventh straight victory; brace of Stakes winners for Cherokee Run

The story of Zenyatta just gets better and better. The four-year-old Street Cry filly now boasts the impressive statistic of seven wins for seven runs, including the G1 Vanity H. and the G1 Apple Blossom H.

Her most recent win came on Saturday in the G2 Clement L. Hirsch H. at Del Mar over eight and a half furlongs. In now customary fashion, she strode to the head of proceedings with imperious ease, making light work of the lead which had been opened up by subsequent runner-up Model, who was receiving 12 pounds from her conqueror. Her share of the $300,000 prize on offer means her lifetime earnings now stand at $914, 580.

Cherokee Run sired a pair of Stakes winners on Saturday when Zanjero won the West Virginia Governor’s S. and Cherokee Triangle took the Cliff Guilliams Memorial S. at Ellis Park.

These two victories were the third Stakes win apiece for each horse. Three-year-old Cherokee Triangle came into the race from a last-start win in the Come Summer S. at Canterbury having also won the Sunday Silence S. at two.

Zanjero, who posted a near five-length win at Mountaineer, had been victorious on the same card last year when winning the G3 West Virginia Derby and he then went on to capture the G2 Indiana Derby last October.
