Zanbagh successfully defends her title in G2 Emancipation Stakes

Bernardini mare gets up in the final strides to secure the victory

Zanbagh put away a stubborn Daysee Doom in the shadow of the wire to win the G2 Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill March 25. Finishing a close third, just a half-length further back was the talented Dixie Blossoms (by Street Sense), recent winner of the G2 Guy Walter Stakes.

Zanbagh, a daughter of Bernardini, captured the Emancipation Stakes for the second consecutive year. In 2016, she led home a Darley-sired 1-2 finish with Supara (by Domesday) falling just a half-length short.

A homebred racing for Sandy Tait, Zanbagh is out of G1 Australian Oaks winner Wild Iris, a daughter of Spectrum.

Bernardini had another fantastic year in 2016 with 10 Graded Stakes winners including dual G1 winner Cavorting, multiple Graded Stakes winner Lewis Bay, G2 Royal Delta Stakes winner Penwith, and G2 Nashua Stakes winner Hemsworth.

He is standing the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
