Young Darley sires on fire at OBS March Sale

Street Boss and Midshipman two-year-olds post six-figure prices

The two-year-old Street Boss colt out of the winning mare Albany County was a show stopper during the breeze show when he went in 21 seconds flat for two furlongs. That was the third-fasted time posted during the workouts and was more than enough to impress trainer Bob Baffert who signed the sales ticket for $700,000 at the Ocala two-year-old sale.

From the consignment of de Meric Sales, agent, the colt’s dam is producing daughter of Forest Wildcat and is a half-sister to the multiple Stakes winner Round Trip Flight.

Midshipman also made some waves of his own as two of his young progeny sold for six figures with one bringing the second highest price paid for any offering by a freshman sire. All totaled, the seven juveniles that passed through the ring for Midshipman averaged an impressive $166,000.

First up is hip 139, another that showed his potential when posting a one-furlong work of nine and four-fifths second, the co-fastest time of the breeze show for that distance. David Ingordo, acting as agent for Mike Weston, paid $560,000 for the two-year-old colt who was consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm. The filly is out of a producing daughter of Eye’ll Be Fine, herself a full sister to the multiple G2 winner/G1-placed Amen Hallelujah.

David Ingordo again signed the ticket for the other six-figure Midshipman, going to $300,000 on behalf of Martin Anthony for Hip 119. This filly worked in 10 second flat and is out of a producing half-sister to G3 winner Alke as well as Stakes winners Debit My Account and Red n’Gold.

Desert Party was represented by one sale two-year-old, hip number 358 which brought a final bid of $150,000. Consigned by Eddie Woods, the bay colt was produced from a winning Salt Lake mare, she a daughter of Stakes winner and G3-placed Top Ruhl. Chika Racing Co., Inc., was the purchaser.

The Bernardini’s were again in demand with hip 310 showing the way at $400,000. This colt is out of a Stakes-winning half to Darley Japan stallion Hard Spun. Consigned by Secure Investments, agent, Christian R. Jelm signed the ticket.

Finally, Medaglia d'Oro’s lone offering found a new home through Mark Casse acting as agent with a final price of $325,000. From the Eisaman Equine consignment, this colt is out of the Stakes-placed Rahy mare, Queen Martha, she a half to the multiple Group winner Clearly A Queen.
