Warrior Maid shows courage in battle

Daughter of Holy Bull wins the Louisiana Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

Warrior Maid, a four-year-old daughter of Holy Bull, recorded her second Stakes win on May 22 with a determined victory in the Louisiana Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

Settled just off the pace, Warrior Maid took the lead entering the stretch and despite a strong challenge from eventual runner up Sax Appeal, the Eric Heitzmann-trained filly took the six-furlong contest by a length and a quarter.

Owned and bred by Russell Welch, Warrior Maid is out of the Marsayas mare Rejoice, dam of four winners to date. She has now won on four occasions and was placed third in the G3 Eight Belles Stakes last year.

Holy Bull has sired 40 individual Stakes winners in his career, including six at G1 level.
