Untamed Domain roars to victory in G2 Summer Stakes

Son of Animal Kingdom rallies late to earn first Graded Stakes win

Untamed Domain charged down the center of the turf course, passing his rivals in deep stretch to win the G2 Summer Stakes at Woodbine Racecourse.

The victory earned the son of Animal Kingdom an automatic berth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, since it is a part of the ‘Win and You’re In’ series sponsored by the Breeders’ Cup.

Breaking a bit awkwardly from the starting gate, Untamed Domain was allowed to settle into stride near the rear of the field early. The bay colt began making up ground on the backstretch, closing in on the leaders while racing near the inside hedge.

As the swept through the far turn and hit the top of the stretch, jockey Joe Bravo swung Untamed Domain out into the center of the course for a clear shot at the leaders. Under a determined rally, Untamed Domain reeled in his rivals, charging past leader Hemp Hemp Hurray nearing the wire to post a neck victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms, Untamed Domain is out of the multiple Stakes winning mare, Ciao (by Lear Fan), and he hails from the immediate family of Smuggly, winner of the G1 Prix Saint-Alary.

Untamed Domain becomes the third Stakes winner and first Graded Stakes winner for his sire. In addition to Untamed Domain, Animal Kingdom’s Stakes winners include Sunny Skies, winner of the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs and Continental Divide, winner of the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar. Animal Kingdom also the sire of recent Woodbine maiden winner, Grace And Dignity.

Animal Kingdom also has six winners in his first southern hemisphere crop, including Animalia, who defeated older horses. His other SH winners include TDN Rising Star Earth Angel, Lord Cecil, Barbary, Royal Phoenix, and Platinum.
