Untamed Domain overpowers rivals to win at Saratoga

Son of Animal Kingdom overcomes trouble to break maiden in second career start

Untamed Domain overcame a troubled trip to win a mile-and-a-sixteenth turf maiden special weight contest at Saratoga July 22.

The handsome bay colt is now the second northern hemisphere winner for his sire, Champion Animal Kingdom.

Settled near the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Untamed Domain began closing on the leaders rounding the far turn. After he was forced to take up sharply when getting into tight quarters, jockey Jose Ortiz swung him to the outside and into the clear. Untamed Domain then charged down the center of the course, sweeping past his rivals to win comfortably by two lengths.

Bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms, Untamed Domain is out of the multiple Stakes winning mare, Ciao (by Lear Fan), and he hails from the immediate family of Smuggly, winner of the G1 Prix Saint-Alary.

Untamed Domain is the second winner from the first northern hemisphere crop of Animal Kingdom, which is headlined by the undefeated filly Sunny Skies, recent winner of the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs. Animal Kingdom also has six winners so far in his first southern hemisphere crop, including recent winner Animalia, who defeated older horses. His other SH winners include TDN Rising Star Earth Angel, Lord Cecil, Barbary, Royal Phoenix, and Platinum.
