Top priced filly of the sale goes to Lonhro

With three days of the Magic Millions yearling sale complete, a yearling by Lonhro is the top-priced filly so far

As a Champion sire in his own right, it is no surprise that the progeny of Lonhro are in high demand at the 2013 Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast in Australia.

Having had 11 yearlings sell so far for an average of AUS$174,000, the Evergreen Stud Farm (as agent)-consigned lot 473 produced an outstanding bidding dual on 11 January, as the hammer came down to the final bid of James Harron Bloodstock.

Harron, bidding on behalf of long time client Dr Edmund Bateman, went to AUS$675,000 to buy the prized filly.

"She is a magnificent filly and very, very athletic," Harron said.

"She has a fantastic pedigree to go with it."

"We rated her as the best filly of the sale. I loved her and to have the pedigree to go with her looks is a bonus," he added.

A record price for a yearling filly by Lonhro, it is also the highest price paid for a yearling of that sex so far at the 2013 sale.

Bred by Evergreen Rich Pty Ltd, the filly is out of the Stakes placed Danehill mare Cirque du Soleil, a full-sister to Champion sire Fastnet Rock. The mare has had four to the races for three winners including the G2 Premiere third placed Emotional Circus and was covered by Lonhro again in the last breeding season.

With the sale continuing tomorrow, Lonhro only has two yearlings left to sell during the final two days of the sale.

Lonhro is set to commence his second season at Jonabell at a fee of $30,000.
