At the top once more

Another sale topper by Medaglia d’Oro

Already the leading commercial sire in recent memory by number of sale and/or session toppers, Medaglia d’Oro delivered once again at Keeneland’s 2012 Horses of All Ages Sale conducted January 9 through January 12. The mare Topliner, dam of 2011 G1 Matriarch winner Star Billing, sold in-foal to Medagalia d’Oro for $1.4 million, the highest price paid for any offering at the sale. Topliner is also a half-sister to Stellar Jayne and Starrer, both multiple G1 winners. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency acting as agent, the ten-year-old mare was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida.

Topliner was one of 72 G1 winners and 32 dams of G1 winners bred to Medaglia d’Oro in 2010 and 2011, consecutive years of arguably two of the best books ever (another 82 were G2 or G3 winners and 40 were G2 or G3 producers). In fact, his 2010 book placed him number one among all sires ranked by Class Performance Index in The Blood-Horse’s MarketWatch.

He also set a North American record price for a weanling with a $2.6 million figure at Keeneland in November.

Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2012 season for $100,000 Live Foal, Stands and Nurses.
