Sweet sixteen

The incomparable Zenyatta takes the Apple Blossom to notch her tenth G1 victory and sixteenth straight win.

Zenyatta, arguably one of the greatest racemares ever to grace the track, took her number of victories at the highest level to an even ten when winning the Apple Blossom for the second time. This was also her sixteenth straight win, matching the record of Citation, Cigar, Hallowed Dreams, and Mister Frisky.

Although not the much-anticipated clash between the daughter of Street Cry and Medaglia d’Oro’s outstanding Rachel Alexandra, the manner of her victory was nonetheless sensational with the six-year-old mare winning by four and a half lengths.

Zenyatta, who opened her 2010 campaign with a scintillating victory in the G1 Santa Margarita Invitational, made history last October when becoming the first ever female to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic. She has now amassed almost $6 million in prizemoney.
