Stylish Sue lived up to her name when earning her first Stakes victory in front-running fashion to take the $250,000 Listed Latonia Stakes by four-and-a-quarter lengths at Turfway Park on Saturday, March 21.
The five-year-old daughter of Nyquist broke alertly under Irad Ortiz Jr. and went right to the lead, where she immediately relaxed as she set comfortable early fractions of :24.89 and :49.18 through the opening half-mile, despite being pressured by rival Devassa down the backstretch. Stylish Sue put away that foe heading into the far turn but soon faced another challenge from Five a Side. The threat was brief, however, as Stylish Sue spurted away at the top of the stretch and continued to draw off, cruising home to win comfortably.
Stylish Sue was bred in Kentucky by Curtis C. Green and is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-placed mare, Maria Maria (Curlin). Maria Maria, who is out of the multiple Stakes-winning mare, Hollow Miss (With Approval), is a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner He’s Got Grit (Songandaprayer).
Nyquist is off to a hot start in 2026, with six Stakes winners to his credit already. Those included Graded Stakes winners Knightsbridge (G3 Mr. Prospector, G3 Fred W. Hooper), Iron Honor (G3 Gotham Stakes), and David of Athens (G3 Jebel Ali Mile).
Nyquist is standing the 2026 season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
