Spun Glass won’t be denied in Camptown Stakes

Hard Spun mare overcomes traffic for second career stakes victory

Sent off as the favorite in the field of 10 in the Camptown Stakes at Colonial Downs on September 7, Spun Glass, by Hard Spun, delivered a hard fought win to her backers notching her second Stakes win in a row. On July 30 she won her first career added-money event in the Jameela Stakes at Laurel.

Spun Glass broke well and was sitting mid-pack through the first quarter mile. As she started to move approaching the half-mile pole, she had to take up sharply and lost a bit of ground. She again made a move approaching the final turn and navigated through traffic down the stretch to get up in the final strides to win by three quarters of a length.

Spun Glass was bred in Maryland and races as a homebred for Larry Johnson. Her dam, the multiple Stakes-placed mare, Allwewantforxmas, is out of Stakes winner Grecian Wings and is a half-sister Hard Enough (by Hard Spun), winner of the G3 Red Bank Stakes, Jersey Derby, and Restoration Stakes.

Hard Spun's nine other stakes winners in 2022 include last year's G1 Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Aloha West, Exotic West, Sparkle Blue, Green Light Go, Loyalty, Necker Island and My Philly Twirl.
