Spinning Lady routes field in Maryland

Hard Spun is the leading first-crop sire by number of winners

It was only took about one quarter of a mile to realize that this particular Maiden Special event at Timonium Race Track in Maryland on August 26 was going to be won by Hard Spun's Spinning Lady. Quickest out of the gate, the two-year-old filly quickly gained the lead and extended it to four and one-half lengths at the top of the stretch and maintained that margin in route to her first career victory.

Bred by Dr. Charlies Giles in Kentucky, Spinning Lady was produced from the multiple stakes-winning mare, Global Finance, and is a half-sister to Stakes winner Prenuptial.

A little over an hour later, Hard Spun's previous maiden winner Hard Not To Like improved her record to two wins in as many starts while defeating colts in allowance company at Woodbine Racetrack in Canada.

In siring his 11th winner from his first crop, Hard Spun is the leading freshman sire in North America in that category. His other winners include the European G2 winner Red Duke, Belmont Maiden Special Weight winner Artest and Japanese winner Frisco Bay. He is also the number one freshman sire in North America with the highest-priced two-year-old at $675,000.

Hard Spun was an undefeated stakes winner at two and G1 winner at three when he won the King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga.
