Souper Escape runs away with the $100,000 La Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro earns her second Stakes win in dominating fashion

Souper Escape took command at the top of the lane and was never threatened as she cruised to a three-and-a-quarter-length victory in the Listed La Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine Sept. 1.

It was the second Stakes victory for the three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro. She captured the Christiana Stakes at Delaware Park earlier this summer.

Breaking sharply under rider Luis Contreras, Souper Escape was full of run and had to be kept under a tight hold by Contreras as they stalked the leader Naughty Me from second through the early stages of the race. Souper Escape drew even with Naughty Me midway through the far turn. She then shook clear of her rival at the top of the stretch, pulling away through the lane while being geared near the wire.

Souper Escape was bred in Florida by her owner, Live Oak Plantation. She is out of the Street Cry mare, Cry And Catch Me, winner of the G1 Oak Leaf Stakes. Cry And Catch Me is a half-sister to European Champion Certify (by Elusive Quality), and hails from the family of Champion racehorse and sire, Habitat.

Medaglia d’Oro is having yet another superb year in 2019. He is represented by Graded Stakes winners Higher Power (G1 TVG Pacific Classic), Cambier Parc (G1 Del Mar Oaks), Elate (G2 Delaware Handicap, G2 Fleur de Lis), Café Americano (G3 Pucker Up), Majestic Eagle (G3 American Stakes), Golden Award (G3 Shuvee) and Crown Prosecutor (G1 Rosehill Guineas).
