Golden Sixty adds another G1 to his resume with victory in Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup

Golden Sixty extended his unbeaten streak to 13 with yet another scintillating performance to take the G1 Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup at Sha Tin Feb. 21.

The Medaglia d’Oro gelding has now won three consecutive Group 1 races, and improved his already sparkling resume to 16 victories from 17 starts.

Dropped out to his customary position at the rear of the field, Golden Sixty began his rally in the home straight, but he was forced to call on everything he had in the final furlong in order to reel in Furore, getting up at the wire to win by a short head.

Golden Sixty was bred in Australia and is out of Gaudeamus, an Irish Group 2 winner by Distorted Humor. Golden Sixty is one of the mare’s five winners from her seven foals to race.

Medaglia d’Oro is off to a hot start in 2021, with three Graded Stakes winners thus far. In addition to Golden Sixty, Medaglia d’Oro is represented by Risk Taking, winner of the G3 Withers Stakes and Moonlight d’Oro, winner of the G3 Las Virgenes. Prevalence, an impressive debut winner at Gulfstream in January, is targeting the G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes Feb. 27.

Medaglia d'Oro is standing the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $150,000, stands and nurses.
