Medaglia d’Oro’s daughter Nitrogen extended her winning streak to four with an explosive stretch run to capture the $600,000 G2 Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs on Friday, 2 May.
The G2 Edgewood, which kicked off the Graded Stakes action at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks Day, provided yet another opportunity for Nitrogen to showcase her talent, which she did perfectly when displaying an electric turn of foot in the final furlong to win by three widening lengths.
As she has done in her previous Stakes victories, Nitrogen was content to track the leaders in the early stages of the race, hugging the inside rail in third as Gowells Delight and Vixen vied for the lead. Tipped five-wide coming off the far turn and entering the homestretch, Nitrogen hit another gear and blew past the frontrunners to take the lead. She continued to draw off to eventually cross the wire three-and-a-half lengths in front of Lush Lips, who pipped Vixen by a nose to grab second.
Nitrogen was bred in Kentucky by her owner, D.J. Stable LLC, and is out of the mare, Tiffany Case, a Stakes-placed daughter of Uncle Mo. In addition to Nitrogen, Tiffany Case is also the dam of Love to Shop (by Violence), winner of the Listed Toronto Cup and second in both the G2 Bessarabian Stakes and G3 Ontario Fashion Stakes.
Medaglia d'Oro's other Graded winning three-year-olds are both slated to run in the G1 Kentucky Oaks—the favorite, Good Cheer, and Ballerina d'Oro, winner of the G3 Gazelle. Medaglia d'Oro's older horses in 2025 include Spirit of St Louis, winner of the G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational.
Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $75,000, stands and nurses.
