Seven figures not hard to figure at Fasig-Tipton November

Darley sires again in high demand at public auction

Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale in Lexington, Kentucky, historically has been the venue for big-priced broodmares year after year. 2013 was no exception with mares in-foal to Darley stallions Medaglia d'Oro, Bernardini and Street Cry commanding some of the sale’s top prices.

Medaglia d’Oro continued his popularity for sales horses of any age with four mares in-foal to him bringing at least six figures at this popular fall sales venue. Tops among these was hip number 207, Eclipse Champion Awesome Feather, bringing $1.9 million with Katsumi Yoshida signing the ticket. The multiple G1-winner was consigned by Adena Springs. Mr. Yoshida also went to $875,000 for another mare in-foal to the sire of Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, the G1 winner Willa B Awesome, who was consigned by Taylor Made Sale Agency, agent.

Hip number 81, the multiple G2 winner Juanita, was another mare in-foal to Medaglia d’Oro, bringing $1.2 million and also hailed from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent. The purchasers of this talented racehorse were Aaron and Marie Jones.

The fourth of four Medaglia d’Oro’s in-foal mares realizing top prices was hip number 95, A. P. Indy’s daughter Malvinia who is out of the G1-winning Mr. Prospector mare Macoumba. Don Alberto was the purchaser of the seven-year-old mare from the barn of Allied Bloodstock, agent.

The ever-popular Bernardini was another Darley stallion that received solid sales support, exemplified by Discreet Cat’s G2-winining daughter Mamma Kimbo who sold in-foal to him for $1.2 million. The well-bred four-year-old was yet another mare from Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment and was purchased by Marie Jones.

Another mare in-foal to Bernardini, the mare Goldenaa Podkove by Elusive Quality's son War Pass and a half-sister to G1 winner and Darley sire Girolamo, was purchased by Mandy Pope for $850,000. Also a half-sister to the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, she was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

Street Cry, whose son New Year's Day was the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on November 2nd, was also represented by a seven-figure, in-foal mare as hip number 154 brought exactly $1 million. The mare Speed Succeeds, dam of G1 winner Brilliant Speed, was another purchased by Mandy Pope with Gainesway Farm, agent, as the consignor.

The Keeneland November Sale begins on November 5th and continue until November 14th.
