Seeking Seca finds the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs

Nyquist filly wins on debut and becomes her sire’s eighth winner from his first crop of two-year-olds

The winners just keep coming for Kentucky Derby winner and Champion Nyquist with his latest, Seeking Seca, winning in maiden special weight company at Churchill Downs on September 17th in her first career start.

Sent off at odds of 17-1 for trainer Mark Casse, Seeking Seca broke alertly enough at the start and was in fourth place as the field reached the first quarter mile. Making steady progress nearing the half-mile mark, where she edged into second place,  the debutante then took aim at the leader and battled bravely with that one down the stretch to put her nose in front at the wire.

Seeking Seca was bred by her owner, Hillcroft Farm, in Kentucky. She is out of the multiple Stakes winner Joffe’s Run whose dam, Stakes winner and G2-placed Laguna Seca, also has produced Stakes-placed Macabe.

Nyquist’s seven other winners include G1 Spinaway winner Vequist, Saratoga debut winner and G1 Spinaway third Lady Lilly, Saratoga winner Team Merchants, Soaring Free Stakes winner Gretzky The Great (entered in the G1 Summer Stakes on September 19), and Ellis Park winners Assertive Style and Dream Quist.
