Secret Wish grants sire Street Cry his 43rd Stakes winner

Stay Thirsty becomes the first G1 performer for freshman Bernardini, finishing a creditable second in the Hopeful Stakes

Although dismissed by most in the crowd at odds of 13-1, Secret Wish, by Street Cry, pulled away nearing the finish of Woodbine's Listed Algoma Stakes on September 6 and in doing so became her sire's 43rd career Stakes winner. Last in the field of ten after six furlongs, the four-year-old filly hit another gear and passed all in the field on her way to an impressive first added-money win.

Co-bred by Darley and Spring Farm in Canada, Street Wish is out of the unraced mare Awesome Lass, making her a half-sister to G1-placed Awful Smart.

Street Cry's other Stakes winners feature 12 G1 winners, including Here Come Ben, winner of Saratoga's G1 Forego Handicap on September 4, plus Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, who alsowon the G2 Makybe Diva Stakes on September 4 in Australia.

Bernardini was represented by his first G1 Stakes horse, also on September 6, when his promising son Stay Thirsty ran second in Saratoga's Hopeful Stakes.

Bred by John D. Gunther and John Darren Gunther, Stay Thirsty is one of five winners from his sire's first crop and was a $500,000 Fasig-Tipton Calder two-year-old sales graduate in February. He is out of Marozia, also dam of G3 winner and Classic-placed Andromeda's Hero and Listed winner and G1-placed Superfly.
