Second G1 victory for Gabby’s Golden Gal

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro lands the Santa Monica with Free Flying Soul (Quiet American) third in the same race

Gabby’s Golden Gal, a four-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, recorded her second G1 victory on January 31st when winning the $250,000 Santa Monica Handicap at Santa Anita.

Settled just off the early pace set by eventual third Free Flying Soul (by fellow Darley stallion Quiet American), the Bob Baffert-trained filly was always traveling well and powered home to win the seven-furlong contest by a length and a quarter.

Winner of the G1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont last June, Gabby’s Golden Gal is owned and bred by Arnold Zetcher and is out of the Stakes-winning, G2-placed mare Gabriellina Giof who was herself the first ever winner for her owner.

Medaglia d’Oro, whose other G1-winning daughter Rachel Alexandra made history earlier this month when becoming the first three-year-old filly to win the Horse of the Year title at the Eclipse Awards, is also sire of another winner at the highest level in Godolphin's Passion For Gold. He stands at Darley America at a fee of $100,000 Stands and Nurses.
