Seattle Smooth streaks to first Stakes win

Quiet American filly lands Bay Meadows Oaks, Rasierra (Kafwain) gains further Black type at Oaklawn Park.

Seattle Smooth, a three-year-old daughter of Darley stallion Quiet American, recorded her first Stakes win in style on April 12, flying to a wide-margin victory in the $75,000 Bay Meadows Oaks.

Settled in fifth under behind early pacesetter Christmas Ship, Seattle Smooth made her move around the home turn and eased past her rivals to open up six-length lead by the time she crossed the wire.

This was the second career win for Seattle Smooth, who was beaten just a neck on her Stakes debut in the California Oaks in February.

A $340,000 yearling, she is out of the Seattle Song mare Our Seattle Star, dam of a further two winners including Black type placer Storming Starlet.

Quiet American has now sired four individual Stakes winners in 2008, including G3 winner La Dolce Vita.

Also on Saturday, Rasierra (Kafwain) added further Black type to her race record when second in the Instant Racing Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
