Rocky on the road to first-season success

Rockport Harbor’s two-year-olds have been the subject of upbeat bulletins from trainers and two were among the top six lots at Ocala

It’s a big year for young Darley stallion Rockport Harbor, who bids to follow in the hoofprints of his stablemate Offlee Wild to take this season’s freshman sires’ championship.

It won’t be long before we see his offspring at the track but following on from some promising yearling sales last year, his first crop continue to find favor with buyers, with two fillies being among the six top-priced lots at Tuesday’s OBS February Sale of two-year-olds in training.

Speaking to the Thoroughbred Daily News, trainer Amy Tarrant, who purchased a daughter of Rockport Harbor slated as hip 52, said: “I loved everything about her. She had beautiful conformation, she was very calm and had a lot of presence.”

Out of Truart (Yes It’s True), a winner and G2-placed at two, the filly was bred by John and Martha Jane Mulholland and fetched $250,000 after breezing in an eye-catching time of :21 4/5 for two furlongs.

Earlier in the sale, hip 18, another daughter of Rockport Harbor out of Sari (Cozzene) was the selection of Kinsman Farm, who went to $185,000 for the Lawrence Golchamn-bred filly, who is a half-sister to My Magic Moment, a Stakes-winning juvenile in 2008.

Rockport Harbor stands at Darley America for $12,500 (Stands and Nurses). Please contact Charlie Boden or the nominations team at 859 255 8537 for further information.
