Pinwheel rockets home in Missile

Fifth stakes win for son of Lonhro

Pinwheel is one of the more consistent horses in training and the seven-year-old son of Lonhro added another Stakes success to his record when proving too strong in Saturday’s G3 Missile Stakes over 1200 metres at Warwick Farm.

Having finished third in the race last year behind Commands’s son Rain Affair, Pinwheel went one better in 2012. Settled in fourth place to the turn for home, Pinwheel came with his challenge in the straight and quickened up in good style to go clear inside the final stages and defeat Centennial Park by a widening one and three-quarter lengths.

"He's such a consistent horse and a pleasure to train," said trainer Peter Snowden. "He deserved to win another good race, he's been a terrific horse for the team."

Pinwheel has now won five Stakes races and his earnings are fast approaching $1 million. Bred by Woodlands Stud he is out of the Danehill mare Quilt, and is bred on the same cross as G1 winner Benfica who will stand his first season at stud under the Darley banner in 2012.

Australia’s champion sire in 2011/12 and the sire of 33 Stakes winners, Lonhro will stand at Darley Kelvinside in 2012 at a fee of $110,000 (inc GST).
