Outplay outshines rivals with a dominating performance in the Curlin Stakes

Son of Bernardini goes wire-to-wire to notch his first Stakes victory

Outplay took the lead right out of the starting gate and never looked back as he charged to a five-length victory in the Listed Curlin Stakes at Saratoga July 28.

It was the first Stakes win for the three-year-old son of Bernardini, who just may have punched his ticket to the G1 Travers Stakes in late August.

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Outplay is out of Miss Kate, a Stakes-placed daughter of Storm Cat. Miss Kate is out of the G1 Monmouth Oaks winner, Dream Deal, and is a half-sister to Clear Mandate, winner of the G1 Three Chimneys Spinster, G1 Shuvee, and G1 John A. Morris. In addition to Outplay, Miss Kate has produced Raconteur (by A.P. Indy), winner of the Private Terms Stakes, and Katerbug (by Pulpit), winner of the Audubon Oaks.

Bernardini is enjoying yet another successful season in 2017 with seven black-type winners to date, including Graded Stakes winners Imperative, Le Bernardin and Watershed. He has sired a total of 40 Group or Graded winners, a growing list highlighted by G1 Travers winners Alpha and Stay Thirsty, and additional G1 winners To Honor And Serve and Cavorting, to name just a few.
