Nysos cruises to victory in G3 Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita

Four-year-old Nyquist colt improves record to four wins in five starts

Nysos returned to the winner’s circle with an impressive five-and-a-half length victory in the G3 Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday, 31 May.

The victory in the seven-furlong Triple Bend improved the four-year-old Nyquist colt’s record to four wins in five starts, with his only loss coming in the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes, where he finished in a dead heat for second with Banishing, just a neck behind the victorious Mindframe.

Breaking a step slowly from the inside post, Nysos quickly joined his rivals to battle down the backstretch, with just over a length covering the tightly-bunched field of four. Nysos poked his head in front at the half-mile marker as he hugged the inside rail. Dr. Venkman, who was second in this race last year, tried to go with him, but Nysos quickly shook free and was on his way, cruising through the stretch to win quite easily.

Bred in Kentucky by Susie Atkins, Nysos is out of the mare, Zetta Z, an unraced daughter of Bernardini. A half-brother to the Stakes-placed filly, Attabe (Distorted Humor), Nysos hails from the immediate family of G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner, Unbridled Elaine and Graded Stakes winners Etched (G2), Emotionless (G2) and Out Of Bounds (G3).

Nyquist is the sire of 30 Stakes winners, including Cavalieri, a two-time Graded Stakes winner (G1 Beholder Mile and G3 La Canada Stakes) in 2025. In addition, he is also the sire of G3 Lexington Stakes winner and recent G1 Preakness runner-up, Gosger; Verity, winner of the G2 Beaumont Stakes and Tenma, winner of the G2 Santa Anita Oaks.

Nyquist is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
