No substitute for The Real Mayo

Bernardini filly is 11th winner for her sire

Despite being the only first time starter in the field, Bernardini’s The Real Mayo ran away from the pack in mid stretch even though she was forced to race wide the entire race. The three and one quarter length victory raised to 11 the total number of winners from her sire’s first crop racing this year.

The Real Mayo is out of the G1 Humana Distaff Handicap winner Mayo on the Side and is a half-sister to the listed winner French Dip. She was bred by Lothenbach Farm, Rancho San Miguel II, Twin Creeks Farm, Taylor Made Farm, et al, in Kentucky.

Bernardini has sired four Group or Graded winners in his first crop, including G1 winners A Z Warrior and Biondetti, in addition to G2 winner To Honor and Serve and G3 winner/G1-placed Theyskens’ Theory. He is the only first-year sire ever represented by both a G1 winner on dirt and turf.

Bernardini will stand for $75,000 in 2011.
