New Money Honey convincing winner of G3 Miss Grillo Stakes

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro breaks her maiden in her Stakes debut

New Money Honey took command in the stretch and drew off to win the G3 Miss Grillo Stakes by two-and-three-quarter-lengths at Belmont Park October 2.

Rated just off the pace by jockey Javier Castellano, New Money Honey stalked the leader from third through the early stages of the race. The Chad Brown trainee made her move on the far turn, ranging up to challenge Rymska for the lead as the field hit the top of the stretch. New Money Honey battled briefly with Rymska before pulling away to win impressively.

The Miss Grillo was just the second career start for the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who broke her maiden and notched her first Graded Stakes win in the race.

New Money Honey was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, LLC, and was purchased for $450,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Miss Money Honey is out of Weekend Whim, an unraced daughter of Distorted Humor. Weekend Whim is full-sister to Any Given Saturday, winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational, and a half-sister to Bohemian Lady, winner of the G3 Cicada Stakes.

New Money Honey becomes the 11th Graded Stakes winner for her sire this year. Medaglia d’Oro is also the sire of 2016 G1 winners Songbird, Mshawish, and Astern (in Australia).
