Multaja flies home late to win G3 P J Bell Stakes at Randwick

Three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro earns her first Graded Stakes win in heart-pounding style

Multaja came charging down the center of the course to claim the G3 PJ Bell Stakes by a head at Randwick April 6.

It was the first Graded Stakes victory for the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who now has won four of nine lifetime starts.

Racing near the rear of the 18-horse field through the early stages of the race, Multaja was angled out toward the center of the course to have clear run at the leaders with just over two furlongs to run. Under a drive from jockey Craig Williams, Multaja overtook the leaders in the final 50 yards to win by a head.

Racing as a homebred for Godolphin, Multaja is out Shelters, a winning daughter of Lonhro. Multaja is a full sister to Stakes winner, Veranillo.

Multaja becomes Medaglia d’Oro’s 126th Stakes winner.

Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a fee of US$200,000, stands and nurses.
