Midnight Martini rules in Matriarch

G2 win for daughter of Street Cry

Street Cry five-year-old mare Midnight Martini proved too good for her rivals in the G2 Matriarch Stakes over 2000m at Flemington.

Perfectly rated just off a slow early pace by Michael Rodd, Midnight Martini accelerated best of all in the straight to go clear 200m out and then stay on strongly to the line.

This is the second stakes success this Spring for Midnight Martini following her success in the Cranbourne Cup two starts back.

Midnight Martini was bred by Mill Park Stud who still share in the ownership of the five-year-old, whose granddam Sawatdee won the 1997 New Zealand Oaks.

Street Cry is the sire of 13 Group or Grade 1 winners, headed by Champion mare Zenyatta and his sons G1 winner Street Boss and Street Sense, winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby.
