Mickey Blue Eyes emerges as classic prospect for Medaglia D’Oro

Lightly-raced colt shows his potential with Listed Randwick win

Medaglia d’Oro is missing from the list of Darley shuttle stallions visiting Australia for the current breeding season, but hardly a race meeting goes by without his presence being felt.

And Saturday’s Randwick meeting, one of the biggest in Sydney this spring proved no exception as Mickey Blue Eyes proved himself one of the more progressive middle distance three-year-olds in training by taking out the Listed Dulcify Quality, and also provided his sire with his 250th Stakes win.

Having only his fifth start and the second of his latest preparation, Mickey Blue Eyes came off a maiden win at Bendigo to score narrowly from Gem Song.

Mickey Blue Eyes looked to have too much to do when Gem Song dashed clear at the 200m, but he rallied strongly to get the nod in a tight photo.

The winner is out of the Zabeel Mare Carolina Belle and was a A$350,000 yearling purchase by his part-owner Peter Devitt at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale.

A run in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m is now one of the spring possibilities for Mickey Blue Eyes.
