Medaglia d’Oro’s Earnshaw earns first Group victory

Two-year-old stays undefeated at Saint-Cloud

Today’s win in the G3 Prix Thomas Byron by two-year-old colt Earnshaw brings to two dozen the number of Group or Graded Stakes winners sired by Medaglia d'Oro. Earnshaw's one and one-quarter-length victory matched the same margin he enjoyed when getting off the mark last month at Chantilly in his first career start.

In today’s one-mile event, Earnshaw tracked behind the early leaders until the furlong pole at which point he made his winning move that carried him to his second career win in two starts.

Owned by Godolphin, and bred by Darley in Kentucky, Earnshaw is out of the G3-winning Machiavellian mare Emily Bronte who has also produced the multiple G3 winner Lockwood.

Earnshaw is one of 17 Group or Graded performers in 2013 sired by Medgalia d’Oro, a number that also reflects seven Group or Graded winners. Standout among these Marketing Mix, a G1 winner in both 2012 and 2013 and whose record boasts a total of six G1 performances, including the runner-up spot in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Fillies and Mare Turf. Marketing Mix is one of a total of seven career G1 winners sired by Medaglia d'Oro, a list that also includes Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, in addition to Violence, his latest son to enter the stallion ranks in North America.
