Medaglia d’Oro filly brings $1.3 million on day three at Keeneland

Rockport Harbor averages almost $172,000 for the first day of Book Two

The third day of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale could arguably be described as Ladies’ Day, with fillies responsible for three of the top five highest prices and once again, the Darley stallions were in the spotlight with Medaglia d'Oro and Bernardini responsible for the two top prices of the day.

Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation went to $1.3 million (the second-highest price of the sale) to secure Medaglia d’Oro’s daughter (pictured) out of the Stakes-placed mare Beaties for Real, herself a half-sister to G3 winners Friel’s for Real and Ryan’s for Real.

Later in the session, a filly from the first crop of Bernardini out of Listen Now – already the dam of four Black type performers and a half-sister to G1 winner Listening – was knocked down to Brushwood Stable for $725,000.

There was also success for freshman sire Rockport Harbor, whose three yearlings sold on the day averaged just under $172,000 – over eight times his 2007 fee. His highest price on Wednesday was $285,000 for a colt out of the Chief’s Crown mare All The Crown, dam of G2 winner Devil’s Preacher and three other Black type performers.

The sale continues today.
